From potato you you are and to potato you shall return

For the exhibition Rúlletta; Rúlluterta in Verksmiðjan Hjalteyri I created a three part work located in multiple places in the old herring factory in Hjalteyri. Including a potato fountain, video, sound and two small ceramic pieces.

In the work I am exploring the idea of the earth as body and body as water. The potato being my symbol for the earth, as the word for potato in icelandic is jarðepli or earth apple.

In the process of making the work I wrote a poem which draws inspiration from the sentence “From dust you come and to dust you shall return”. In the poem I switched dust for potato and water. The poem played out loud in a form of whisper over the fountain.
